Digitizing service

Store your dearest memories carefullyAre your precious memories still stored on old video tapes and films? We recommend digitizing them so that they remain safe and can be viewed in the future as well. When old recordings are converted into digital format, they can be viewed on modern devices and easily shared with loved ones. In the JAS Kamerakauppa we digitize various home videos (e.g. VHS, 8mm, MiniDV), cinefilms, dia slides and film negatives with high quality. You can bring your digitized photos and videos to our store in Turku or Helsinki or send them to us by Posti.

Why you should digitize?
The materials of old recordings deteriorate over time and after a few years it may no longer be possible to view them. Many playback devices suitable for old video and image recordings have gone broken, and new ones are no longer manufactured. Few people have, for example, a working VHS tape player at home anymore. Digitization is worth doing so that important memories are preserved for future generations and can be viewed easily at any time. In digitization, old pictures and videos are transferred to digital format files, that can be viewed with computers, tablets and smartphones. Digital files are also easy to back up and share with relatives or friends.
Present tipDigitizing shared memories is also a valued gift idea. Digitization can be given as a gift card or already done ready for the recipient. Watching beloved memories together creates an emotinal moment for birthdays or Christmas holidays, for examble!
What we digitize?
We digitize old videos and photos shot by individuals and companies themselves from numerous different storage formats. For example, we can digitize VHS, VHS-C and MiniDV video cassettes, 8mm and super8 cine films, 8mm video tapes, C-cassettes, dia slides and film negatives. There are many different old photo and video recording formats, so feel free to ask for more information. It doesn't matter it you don't recognize the format of the recording - you can get help from us!
How we digitize?Photos are saved as JPG files and videos as MP4 files with high quality and security. If you want, you can influence the resolution of the photos. We save the files on a memory stick, from witch it is easy to view them on a computer, for example. We recommend that you also copy the files from the memory stick to another location (e.g. on hard drive or cloud), so that they will definitely remain saved. Your original photo and video recordings remain intact when digitized, so you get them back as well.
Price?
There are many different formats that can be digitized and each has its own price list. The number of photos or recordings also affects the price. The more photos and videos to be digitized, the lower the price per piece. Contact us and we'll sort out together what you have to digitize and how much. This way you get the exact price and we avoid the so-called surprise expenses. You can also check the price list of our most common digitization works from the link below.

Digitizing kits
Digitizing kits bring together everything you need for high‑quality repro photography and film material digitization. Each kit includes holders, bases, stands and lights, so you can build a functional digitizing setup easily and consistently — you only need to attach your own camera. Whether you’re digitizing archives, working in a museum, documenting products or preserving your own films and slides, these ready‑made kits make the workflow smooth and repeatable without having to source individual parts separately. If you’re unsure which digitizing kit best suits your needs, we’re happy to help. Contact us — together we’ll build a setup that works for you.

Digitizing Stands
Digitizing stands provide a stable and repeatable foundation for repro photography. They typically consist of a repro stand, a camera arm and a flat base plate, all working together to keep the camera firmly in place and the material being digitized perfectly aligned. This setup is essential when you need consistent, uniform results — for example when photographing archival materials, documents, film or small objects. A good digitizing stand speeds up your workflow and reduces errors by eliminating the risks of hand‑held shooting and ensuring that your images are sharp, level and easy to process afterward. If you’re unsure which digitizing stand best suits your intended use, we’re happy to help. Get in touch — together we’ll find a reliable, long‑lasting solution.

Digitizing Columns
Copy columns provide a precise and stable platform for your camera when both the angle and height need to remain exactly consistent. With a built‑in camera mount and accurate height adjustment, they are excellent tools for product photography, digitization work and other studio tasks that require exact positioning. Our selection includes both manually adjustable models and motorized versions with remote control, which make it easy to fine‑tune the camera height quickly and repeatedly whenever needed. If you’re unsure which copy column best suits your shooting needs, we’re happy to help. Get in touch — together we’ll find a precise and reliable solution for you.

Digitizing Lights
Digitization lights provide even, high‑quality and flicker‑free illumination, which is essential when original materials need to be captured accurately and consistently. The selection includes both light tables designed for backlighting — ideal for clearly revealing the structure of film, slides and negatives — as well as LED lights that can be mounted on a digitization stand to evenly illuminate the subject from above. Good digitization lighting produces sharp images with neutral color reproduction and reduces the need for time‑consuming post‑processing. It is a key component of reliable and professional digitization work — whether you are handling archival materials, collections or treasured items from home. If you’re wondering which type of light would best suit your digitization setup, we are happy to help. Get in touch — let’s build a functional and high‑quality lighting solution together.

The selection includes various holders for materials being digitized, ensuring that photos, films and documents stay flat and correctly positioned, as well as slide viewers that make it easier to review the material before digitizing. We also offer polarizers for digitization lights to reduce reflections, along with a variety of mounting accessories that help you build stable and repeatable shooting setups. These small add‑ons make digitization work faster and higher in quality — and help ensure that the final results are consistent and easy to process.
